BSc (Hons) Media Technology
The Media Technology course provides students with
a broad-based programme of study that combines traditional media (such
as audio, video and print technologies) with the technologies associated with new media
(such as digital imaging, Internet and interactive multimedia).
By the third and final year of the course, students have gained a
breadth of experience necessary to enable them to converge media and
create innovative mixed media/multimedia works that strive to cross
boundaries.
The students' practical experience on this course culminates with the
Exhibition and Performance module, which provides them with an
opportunity to develop a multimedia presentation for a public audience.
The shows on display in the main Auditorium have been developed
specifically around an agreed theme. This year students are exploring
the theme of 'Hidden Worlds', drawing upon audio, video, digital
imaging, multimedia and 3D video and computer graphics technologies
using a multi-screen format.
Many successful students have gone on to work in a diverse range of
fields. Media Technology graduates have obtained jobs with Sony
PlayStation, Off the Wall (video and multimedia), Transworld
International and a range of website design companies. During the past
year we have graduates working in Framestore, the BBC and Tiger Red
(Exhibition & Events company). Many have gone on to become successful
freelance web designers, multimedia producers, scriptwriters or trainers
in the IT/media industries. Some students have also progressed onto
higher degrees for example, in acoustics, composing for new media and
computer arts.
Work will be presented as scheduled screenings at the Exhibition
Hall and Auditorium.
Technical facilities for this part of the exhibition have
been provided
and sponsored by Barco Projection Systems and Dataton UK Ltd.
